  • Phoenix Hotel

    Constructed of logs in 1816, this building has been in continuous operation as a bar, restaurant, and/or hotel since its beginning. The building now houses Cuz’n Joe’s.
  • 1902 Main Street

    This is looking south on Main Street. Conyngham United Methodist Church is on the left. It's proposed that this is a picture of a parade for a July 4 celebration.
  • Conyngham School

    This picture depicts the Conyngham School in 1907. Students are shown leaving the school, perhaps for recess.
  • The Belsnickel

    The “Belsnickel” arrives with a sleigh and four horses in front of a home at 349 Main Street. Undated photograph.
  • Conyngham Pass

    A carriage travels on the Conyngham Pass road, which is present-day Route 93 between Conyngham and Berwick.
  • The Conyngham Hotel

    The Conyngham Hotel was built in 1815, partly of log and partly framed. It has been used as a hotel and various businesses and is presently the Brass Buckle restaurant and apartments.
  • A.F. Smith Store

    The A.F. Smith Store, the brick building pictured here, is the building that prevented the infamous 1907 fire from engulfing the entire town.

How the Conyngham Valley Historical Society Began

A group of people banded together as a Centenial Committee to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Conyngham's incorporation as a borough. Interest in valley history stemmed from a presentation of local artifacts which were a part of a display to celebrate the 100th anniversary. Interest grew and citizens expressed a desire to form a Historical Committee; thus the name was changed from Centennial Committee to Historical Committee.
